As a Christian, and as stated in the Bible, water baptism is an important step to take in the faith walk for a Christian. In the Gospel of Mark, Mark states that “he that believeth and is baptised shall be saved”. Water baptism means, as defined in the Bible, the old man being buried with Jesus, taking the cross and following Jesus as a new creation. The water cleanses a new Christian and washes away old sin, and the old man. Old sins are washed away, and you are a new creation after water baptism. It is an important part of the faith journey of a Christian, and is an act of defiance against satan, and open gesture that you are a follower of Jesus Christ and Father God. As Matthew Henry wrote in his exposition of Genesis, about Joseph’s brothers that originally sold him as a slave to the Ishmaelites, that the old past sins and iniquity don’t define men now (as Joseph’s brothers had confessed and repented of their iniquity before Joseph and repented of what they had done to Joseph). We as Christians, through the work of Jesus Christ, have the ability to repent (turn away) and confess our sins before God and God forgets our sin.
Satan will bring up old past sins and remembrance of the old past man, but the Bible states that there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus. So you have to be in Christ Jesus. To be in Christ Jesus is to depend on Jesus, and rely on Him, living in Faith and in the Spirit. Also, we need to be covered by the Blood, which is given in Holy Communion, which cleanses all sin. We should not take Holy Communion unworthily, as the Bible stated that it brings a curse, but we have to wholeheartedly repent of our sins before taking Communion. So don’t let your old man, or past sins and iniquity define who are you now, you are a new creation in Christ Jesus.
