Don’t Look Backwards and Pray for Sinners

We read in the Book of Genesis about a righteous man called Abraham (the father of Isaac) praying for Sodom (where the word sodomy comes from), that God would spare Sodom for fifty righteous persons sake, as Abraham’s nephew Lot lived there. Abraham continued praying and interceding for Sodom, and managed to convince God to spare Sodom for ten righteous persons sake, however ten righteous people could not be found in Sodom.

This demonstrates that God spares the wicked for the sake of the righteous, we as Christians should pray for the righteous and wicked, and there are righteous that dwell with the wicked. We as Christians should learn to hate the sin, but not the sinner. Lot and his relatives lived in Sodom, and angels came to Lot’s door to warn Lot of the wrath to come (fire from the sky). Lot was warned multiple times about the wrath and God’s displeasure of Sodom, however the angels were blunt and made their case for Lot to make action just in time. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and we can always say, tomorrow we will change. Change now at this instant as good intentions won’t get you into Heaven.

Lot and his relatives managed to flee Sodom to a small city called Zoar. However, Lot’s wife looked back at Sodom when leaving and was immediately turned to salt, to what looked like a statue or figure of a woman. This means that we should not turn back to the wickedness we have left behind but always should be pressing forwards to greater things in God, not going backwards. In the Bible it is mentioned that we should not be like dogs which return to their own vomit, like fools returning to their folly, in Book of Proverbs.
