It is presented in the Bible that there are four activities we must not forsake as a practising Christian. One is called the Apostles’ Doctrine in the Word of God. This is a doctrine that we all as Bible believing Christians should practise and follow. This doctrine encompasses the teachings of Jesus Christ. This is different to man-made customs, practices and traditions. Remember that it was the religious and traditional people of the time that put Jesus on the cross. The four main pillars are as follows. We should take Communion as much as possible, we should not forsake the Assembly of the Righteous, we should Pray often and follow the Apostles’ Doctrine.
In Acts and Hebrews, we are told that we should not forsake the Assembly of the Righteous, but what does this mean? It is often interpreted as meaning that we should go to Church on Sunday as often as we can. It is written in the Bible, so we should not forsake Church and the gathering of Christians. It is written in the Bible that where two or three are gathered together in Christ’s name, God is there also.
It is also written in the Bible that we should pray as often as possible. Pour out your heart towards God, both in thanks, praise and repentance. Be penitent.
The third activity is that we should take Holy Communion as much as possible, but we must first examine ourselves and if we really repent of our sin wholeheartedly. Taking Communion whilst not being penitent we bring upon ourselves a curse. We all fall short of the glory of God. Communion is about taking the symbolic body (bread) and symbolic blood (wine) of Jesus Christ to wash away our sins.
Lastly, we must follow the Apostles’ Doctrine. The Apostles’ Doctrine is the teachings of Jesus as revealed through scripture. So, simply put, don’t forsake reading your Bible and practising its teachings as often as you can.
