It is introduced in the Epistles (New Testament letters) by Paul that there are many different members of the Church, such as pastors, teachers, evangelicals, prophets and helpers etc. Paul uses the analogy of different members of our body. We have many members of our body, with differing functions, but all make up the one body. Our eye cannot say to our feet I don’t need you, and vice versa. Although there are many members of the body of the Church of Christ, we are all one in Christ. We are all called to use our God given talents for the maintenance and advancement of the Church, which in Song of Solomon, is Christ’s bride, which He will come back for.
There is a parable in the New Testament Gospels that speaks of the wise and foolish virgins waiting for a bridegroom at night. The wise brought extra oil to last the night for their lamps as they awaited the bridegroom, the foolish, which were not prepared, ran out of oil (not foreseeing and being prepared for the long wait). While the five foolish virgins went out to seek oil for their lamps, the bridegroom arrived and let the five wise virgins in. When the five foolish virgins arrived back, they are not allowed inside. We, as Christians, should be prepared for Jesus’ second coming, and be prepared we must be. Only the Father knows the time of Jesus’ second coming, but in Matthew chapter twenty-four, we are introduced to certain signs that signal the second coming of Christ. It is important to note that we should expect the second coming but also prepare the next generation (the next generation of pastors and teachers etc.) also. It is also important to note that Paul thought Jesus was coming in his time, but nobody truly knows except the Father.
It is written in the Bible, that he who desires the work of a Bishop, desires a good work. It is also written that God has called and chosen us out of the world, not ourselves. Christians are written in God’s Book of Life, before the foundations of the world were laid.
