What Jesus did for us sinners can never be repaid, that is why we as Christians are saved through Grace and not by works. Jesus paid the debt of sin for the whole wide world, by his sacrifice, that is ample and all sufficient. His Father (God) had to turn away from Him when He cried out “Father, Father why have you forsaken me?” because God being Holy and without sin, being totally righteous, could not bare it. Jesus then spent three days in the earth, and released the saints that were waiting for Him, then He rose up from the dead, met the Apostles and other people along the way for forty days, and then was Translated (living body taken up) into Heaven to sit at the right hand of God.
Jesus Christ is a bridge between the gulf that separates humankind from God. God is pure and holy. Did you ever wonder of the significance of the veil being torn on the ninth hour after Jesus was crucified? Usually only the high priest once a year could enter into the Holy of Holies, a place so Holy any lay person would die instantly if they entered. It was a place to have access to God. The veil covering the Holy of Holies was torn representing Jesus Christ got rid of the curtain due to His sacrifice and made God accessible to any penitent sinner. Jesus Christ died for us to make us acceptable in God’s eyes, hence why Jesus is called the Lamb of God.
