Work and Business Dealings

The Bible provides a large amount of advice on work and dealings in business for Christians. Paul the apostle states in the Epistles (which includes the letters from Paul to the Churches) that if a person refuses to work, when they can, they should not be fed, for Paul and the other apostles labored and toiled for the Church to not become a burden. So we should, as Christians, try with all our strength to become productive members of society.

In terms of business, God gives us talents and gifts, such as that we can be industrious in our dealings. Even though we are called to be separated from the world, we still have to interface with the world, but we must try to leave it better then we found it in terms of the Kingdom of God. We need to advance the Kingdom of God on earth, as we say in the Our Father prayer, “your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven”. Go fourth and preach the Gospel (which means Good News in the Greek). As Christians, we should be honest and diligent. As stated in the Book of Proverbs written by King Solomon, the hand of the diligent makes him rich. The Book of Proverbs also states that the sluggard that loves sleep will soon come to poverty.

The Bible also states that we should treat our employers with respect, and serve them as though we are serving the Lord. It should soon become apparent to the people that you work for and with that, something is different about you. Bring glory and honor to the Lord in your work. Become representatives and witnesses for His Kingdom.
